Discovery Elementary
Description
This new elementary school is a prototype for three (3) scheduled projects designed to address the immediate needs of the community and students of kindergarten through sixth grade. All prototypical site designs incorporate separate primary and intermediate playgrounds, and linked to adjacent municipal parks. Within the school, functional requirements are categorized into two basic components: the classroom clusters, consisting of six (6) individual classrooms arranged around a common group instructional area for “pull-out” programs (and serving as built-in expansion); and the clustering of buildings to affect convenience to shared facilities and adequate surveillance of campus activities. Both buildings and layout project a friendly scale and easily understood organization centering around “common” activities. School construction has 57,900 sq. ft of building area, with 600 pupil capacity, consisting of 4 kindergarten, 12 standard classrooms, 3 “pull out” group instruction classrooms and computer lab, administration, library, multi-purpose and supplemental site work and play fields.
