Lawson Middle School
Description
Conversion of Collins Elementary School into Sam H. Lawson Middle School. This 84,762 S.F. project included 33,563 S.F. of new construction as well as 51,199 S.F. renovation/reconfiguration of the existing buildings. To strengthen the design concept, new facilities and circulation established more prominent entry and drop-off areas, quad areas were developed for student gatherings, and new, sustainable landscaping was used to link the new and the old into one cohesive campus. The middle school now also functions as a joint-use performing arts/sports center for the community. Today there is a waiting list for transfer to Sam H. Lawson Middle School.
